Kosovska Mitrovica with surroundings covers area of 154 km2. It is placed in basin surrounded with Kopaonik, Rogozna and Mokra Gora mountains. It is spreading on the river basin of Ibar , Sitnica and Ljuste rivers, as well as on the surrounding slopes (42.89° north, 20.87° east)

The Kosovomitrovacko polje is surrounded on the north with volcanic hills Zvecane (799 m), Small Zvecane (750m), Kukaviska Kosa (550 m) Sokolica (918 m) and Majdan (1268 m) mountain. On the east there is Lisica (665m) hill, on the south-east Crnusa, and on the west Zmic (822m) and Grmiva (782m). On the south side slope Bair (520 m) is placed. Mentioned rivers form ravine and valleys and form natural connections of Kosovska Mitrovica and Serbia , Montenegro and Kosovo-Metohia valley.

On the east of Kosovska Mitrovica, above places Prvi Tunel and Stari Trg there are Bajgora and Salja mountain as natural border with Podujevo township.

Kosovsko-mitrovacki region (2049km2) consists of following communities: on the south Vucitrn (and accompanied villages) on the west Ibarski Kolasin and Zubin Potok, Gazivode lake to the Brnjak village nearby Ribnica, on the north-west it is bordered with Novi Pazar with Rogozna mountain, and far north Zvecana an Leposavic connect to Serbia.
